When thinking about investment firms, one may think it’s all about numbers or the return on investment, and while that’s always important for TFX Capital, their focus is on the people they invest in and what they’re trying to accomplish across the world.

Founded by Haifax County native Brandon Shelton, and operated by Shelton, Kevin Eckert, partner Abbey Johnson, director of operations, a strategic advisory board and hundreds of stakeholders, they invest in former military leaders who have identified a problem and are working to solve it.

They’re a “Task Force” led by veterans for veterans who are “high-performing, accomplished and commercial-tested military leaders building early stage technology and technology enabled business.”

Shelton, who’s dad, uncle and brother were all in the military, joined the U.S. Army in 1998 and served active duty for six years in Georgia and Italy before spending two years in the reserve.

He also studied business, finance and administration at the University of Richmond and earned his masters at Duke University.

Eckert served in the U.S. Marine Corps, and Johnson is a military spouse, and all three of their military backgrounds are critical to the company, according to Shelton.
