We continuously try to bring together a team of teams to support our founders.

We are a Task Force.

Leadership & Core Team

Brandon Shelton

Managing Partner

We see an opportunity in driven Veteran leaders. By properly supporting and connecting these individuals, we believe they will reach their performance goals, execute in their marketplaces and achieve their Missions faster than their peers.”

Brandon Shelton is Founder & Managing Partner at TFX Capital. He is a strategy leader, a problem solver, and a relationship builder. An entrepreneur himself, he led the grassroots effort that became TFX Capital in 2015.

Prior to launching TFX Capital, Brandon spent nearly two decades developing his financial, strategic and operational skills through various experiences in high intensity environments – from the military, pre and post 9/11, to the Wall Street crisis of 2008. Following his time on Wall Street, Brandon became a partner at a boutique strategy consulting firm where he used military principles to help client teams grow. He was later hired to drive growth, expansion and technology changes as the Head of Strategy at a multi-billion dollar company in North America.

Brandon served eight years in the U.S. Army as an airborne infantry and military intelligence officer, leading teams on both strategic and tactical levels for various missions around the world. He earned a B.S. with honors from the University of Richmond and holds an MBA from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.

Kevin Eckert

From the moment I learned about what TFX was building, I knew I wanted to be part of it. As a veteran working in the investment world, the TFX mission deeply resonated with me.”

Kevin Eckert joined TFX Capital in early 2018 with over 20 years of experience in finance, strategy, operations and investments.  A military veteran and startup advisor, Kevin initially got involved with TFX Capital as an investor in Fund I and has supported the firm with deal sourcing and execution since the firm launched.

Prior to joining TFX Capital, Kevin spent over a decade as a Managing Director for Stephens Capital Partners LLC and Stephens Inc. where he was involved in transactions ranging from startups to leveraged buyouts. He began his business career as a member of General Electric’s Corporate Audit staff and later joined GE Capital as a Six Sigma Master Black Belt, leading and mentoring numerous operational improvement projects as well as co-founding a new insurance business. Following his time with GE, Kevin founded a management consulting company that advised companies and government agencies mainly in the defense sector.

Kevin served as a field artillery officer in the U.S. Marine Corps.  He earned a B.A. with honors from the University of Chicago and an MBA from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.  Kevin currently sits on the Board of Directors of Veterans Bridge Home, a non-profit that connects transitioning military and veteran families to community-based resources. He also is on the Steering Committee for the Charlotte Chapter of Veterans on Wall Street.

Matt Abrams

Venture Partner

I am incredibly proud to help the team at TFX Capital and those in whom they have invested succeed. It is a privilege to help those who have served others to succeed in their next missions.”

Matt has spent over 25 years in the enterprise software industry serving as an operator leading product management, engineering, customer success, and industry standards teams from companies ranging in size from 200 to over 100,000 employees. Before moving into the venture capital industry, Matt led a global engineering team at Oracle responsible for Oracle’s Analytics & Performance Management Hardware & Software and their strategic customers. Prior to that, he held similar roles at Hyperion (acquired by Oracle) and Arbor Software, where the OLAP product category was created and led the industry in what is now Analytics and Business Intelligence.

He is a Strategic Innovation & Technology Advisor to Healthcare and other Enterprise organizations and serves as an Executive Coach and Advisor to a number of startup founders. He currently serves on the boards of Northwestern’s Master’s of Science in Analytics (MSiA) program as well as the World Sustainability Foundation.

Matt has served as a guest lecturer at Northwestern’s McCormick Engineering school and Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management and holds a BS degree in Computer Engineering from Northwestern University. He is passionate about helping students and others live for and achieve more meaningful lives and strives to “leave it better” than he’s found it.

Abbey Johnson

Director of Operations

We have a daily opportunity to create meaningful connections amongst founders, investors, industry leaders, and supporters. This collective and trusted community unites time and time again to amplify the impact we are able to have on companies in our portfolio.”

Abbey joined TFX in February 2018 after spending several years in San Francisco recruiting senior talent for early stage technology startups. Prior to recruitment and as a military spouse, Abbey spent time in a variety of industries and functional roles including marketing, project management, and sales.

Upon moving to Charlotte, Abbey was immediately drawn to TFX’s mission and leadership; she initially became involved with the firm in late 2017, volunteering to support what has become TFX’s largest annual capstone event.

Abbey earned a B.S. with honors from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business.
